Two robbery suspects, Amubieya Emmanuel, 26 and Ogunmola Akintola, 26 noted for robbing Ondo residents with toy gun have been arrested.

They held away for several months robbing their victims at night.

They picked up their victims who were majorly women, drive them to solitary places and dispossess them of their monies and belongings.

The police of the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) which successfully neutralized their activities on the 25th of February 2025, found out that the gang of robbers operated with a toy gun.

A statement from the Ondo State Police Command said the two suspected armed robbers had been terrorizing residents of Akure in recent months.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects have been actively involved in series of robbery incidents in Akure since August 2024,” Police spokesperson, Funmilayo Odunlami, said.

“Their modus operandi was targeting ladies, they pick their victims at night (around 10:00 PM) using a Toyota Camry, drive them to remote areas within Akure, rob them of their mobile phones, compelling them to transfer money from their bank accounts at gunpoint (though the gun used was later discovered to be a toy gun).”

Items recovered from them include a
Toyota Camry used in the operations, Knife, Iron rod and a Toy gun.

“The suspects, who had been on the Command’s watchlist, have confessed to the crime and investigations are ongoing to apprehend any other accomplice(s),” Mrs Odunlami said.

“The Ondo State Police Command remains committed to ensuring the safety and security of all residents. We urge the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the police.”

Residents of Ondo State, particularly those living in Akure, the state capital had over several months raised the alarm following a surge in armed robbery attacks.

Residents complain that it appeared that security agencies are failing in their duties of protecting lives and properties. Communities like Ijapo, Oke-Ogba, Oke-Aro, Aiyedun Quarters, Kajola, Ondo road, new sites which suffered the raids and attacks from the robbers.

In spite of the development, the police assured that everything would be done to stem the tide.
