The Super Eagles brightened their chances of qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup after beating Lesotho 2-1 on Friday.
Troost Ekong gave Nigeria the perfect start in the 55th minute by converting a penalty following a handball in the Lesotho box, sending the home fans into jubilation.
Akor Adams later doubled the advantage with a clinical finish in the 80th minute, seemingly putting Nigeria in control.
Lesotho responded in the 83rd minute with a goal from Kalake, but the Eagles held firm to secure the crucial three points.
However, Benin Republic secured three points against Rwanda and so maintaining their lead of the group, with Nigeria trailing behind.
South Africa played a barren draw with Zimbabwe.
Benin lead the group with 17 points, while Nigeria have 14 points.
A victory in the final match against Benin in Uyo is the Super Eagles sure path to the World Cup, whole hoping that South Africa and Benin drop points in their final matches.
The Super Eagles would also need to improve on their goal difference in order to get a chance should the top teams tie on points.
For Lesotho, the defeat is a harsh blow, effectively ending their hopes of qualifying from the group, with nine points from five matches.
