A proposal for a new body of regulations for the Nigeria Football Federation may emerge on Saturday, as it holds its 81st Annual General Meeting in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State on Saturday.
Although there were reports that the AGM would amend the existing statutes, the NFF in a statement on Thursday denied the reports.
”For the avoidance of doubt, there are no plans to amend the NFF Statutes at the 2025 Annual General Assembly, scheduled for 27 September 2025. Any suggestions to the contrary are unfounded,” the statement said.
But the federation admitted that a workshop billed for Friday 26th September will have the task of forging a new statutes in conformity with FIFA and CAF rules.
”As part of standard procedure, a workshop will take place on 26 September 2025 with the participation of officials from delegates representing the Members of the NFF as well as FIFA and CAF officials,” the statement read.
”The purpose of this forum is to deliberate proposals for new NFF Statutes, in line with the principles of good governance and international best practices.
”It is important to emphasize that this consultation process is still at an early stage.
”Only after a common direction is agreed upon with NFF Members may a General Assembly be convened specifically to consider and adopt the proposed Statutes.”
The NFF further affirmed its commitment to working closely with its General Assembly Members, as well as with FIFA and CAF, to ensure that all processes related to its Statutes are conducted with due process, transparency, and full adherence to global best practices.
“Ultimately, the objective of this process is to establish robust and enduring Statutes that will strengthen governance within the Federation and enhance, among other things, the representation and participation of stakeholders across NFF bodies,” it said.
”This long-term framework is aimed at ensuring stability, inclusivity, and progress for Nigerian football.”
NFF President, Ibrahim Musa Gusau, is expected to present a welcome address to the plenary before the business session, just as the General Secretary, Dr Mohammed Sanusi will present an activity report of the secretariat.
During the business session, there will also be presentation of the consolidated and revised balance sheet and profit-and-loss statement; approval of the financial statements; approval of the budget for the coming year; admission for membership (if applicable); votes on proposals for amendments to the Statutes, the regulations governing the standing order of the Statutes, and the Standing Orders of the General Assembly.
The General Assembly will discuss any proposal submitted by the Members and the Executive Committee; appoint an Independent Auditor, dismiss a person or a body (if applicable) and; discuss any further items submitted by the Members or the NFF Executive Committee.
