Another student of the Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko, Ondo State, Joy Adeyemi, has been murdered.

Ms Adeyemi is a student of the Department of Human Kinetics.

She was alleged to have been murdered by her boyfriend whose identity is yet to be revealed.

The development is coming few weeks after two undergraduate students, Andrel Okah and John Abbah of the university were abducted and murdered by hoodlums led by popular Akungba landlord.

However a twist in the case occured when the police announced the death of the landlord, Femi Oladele.

Students of the institution have raised questions as to the veracity of the information of the death of Mr Oladele despite police assertions.

The lifeless body of Ms Okah has since been recovered, but the police say they are still searching for the body of Mr Abba.

In Saturday’s development, It was gathered that Ms Adeyemi’s decaying body was discovered after a pungent odor aroused the concerns of neighbours in the residential area.

It was alleged that her boyfriend had killed her and locked her inside his room since Tuesday.

Confirming the Saturday’s discovery, Police Public Relations Officer for Ondo State Command, Olayinka Ayanlade, said the body of said lady had been deposited at the morgue.

“Meanwhile three suspects have been arrested in connection with the said murder and efforts are on to arrest the fleeing suspect,” Mr Ayanlade said.

“The Ondo state Police Command urged all law abiding citizens of the state especially the student community to remain calm and cooperate with us as we ensure that justice is served.”

The student’s of AAUA are not taking the development lightly, as they conducted a peaceful protest on Saturday to denounce the killing.

During the protest the angry students chanted various solidarity songs, carried placards with inscriptions such as, ‘ At Akungba Akoko, say no to students killing,’ ‘ Stop killing us, AAUA students.” 

A statement by the President of the AAUA Student Union, Salami Akeem, lamented the killings of students of the institution allegedly by persons known to be indigenes of Akungba community.

He said the institution was yet to recover from the shocks of the killing of Andrel and John, before the recent killing of Ms Adeyemi.

He said with the last incident which resulted in the arrest of a landlord and other members of the Akungba community, the university community is again confronted with another unfortunate incident.

“However, to our greatest surprise, we were rudely confronted with another terrible news of another student that was murdered by her boyfriend who also happened to be an indigene of the host community,” the statement read.

“From what we have been able to gather, it was discovered that the student was gruesomely murdered, stabbed to death and left to rot in his room  by her boyfriend for more than three days. 

“The discovery of the body came after the neighbors noticed strange odor oozing from the room of the student which led them to breaking the door of the room and discovering the corpse of the lady that has already started to decompose. 

” It has als been gathered that boyfriend is on the run. Even though the mother of the perpetrator has been arrested, the criminal remain at large. 

“On this note, the Student Union of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, Ondo state is issuing a 24-hour Ultimatum to the State, The Nigerian Police Force and all associated bodies to come to the aid and stop the gruesome and incessant killings of the student community in Akungba. 

*We make this demand in the spirit of solidarity, comradeship and without fear of contradiction to demand for justice for our fallen students. 

“We also wish to express that if the perpetrators of this heinous crime are not brought to book within the ultimatum given, the students Union body will not hesitate to go into a full-blown confrontation and protest in a bid to put a permanent end to these consistent killings of our students.”

The National Association of Nigerian Students Joint Campus Committee, in a statement condemned the dastardly act and called on the security agencies to bring the perpetrator to book  

The statement was signed by the chairman and secretary of the committee Adekanye

Adeboye and Oladele Emmanuel respectively.

“The National Association of Nigerian Students, Joint Campus Council, Ondo Axis is appalled and deeply saddened by the recent wave of killings targeting students of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko, Ondo State. While the student community is still grappling with the tragic loss of two students who were brutally killed in the university, another female student fell victim to this senseless violence just yesterday,” the statement read.

“As a body saddled with the responsibility of overseeing the general affairs and welfare of all Nigerian students, we strongly condemn these heinous acts and demand immediate action from the Ondo State Government and all security operatives responsible for safeguarding lives and property within the state. The incessant killings are a clear indication of a security lapse that must be addressed urgently.

“In light of these tragic events, NANS issues a 24-hour ultimatum to the Ondo State Government and all relevant security agencies to identify and apprehend the perpetrators of these crimes,  implement robust security measures to prevent further attacks on students and ensure the safety and security of all students within the university and its environs.”
