The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons has summoned Darlington Okoye, popularly known as Speed Darlington, following his claims of sexual involvement with a minor.

The controversial singer sparked widespread outrage during an Instagram Live session in which he claimed to have had a sexual encounter with a 15-year-old girl.

The Lagos State  Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency reported the matter to NAPTIP, urging a thorough investigation into the disturbing claims.

In response to the backlash, Speed Darlington released a follow-up video where he stated that the comments were intended to promote a new song. He also issued an apology for any offence or discomfort caused by his remarks.

In a statement issued on Thursday, NAPTIP confirmed it has summoned Speed Darlington for questioning. The agency also warned that further action would be taken should he fail to comply.

The two-page summon read, “We write to formally invite you to appear before the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) in respect of certain video materials recently circulated online, including but not limited to a particular Instagram video wherein you allegedly made statements admitting to having engaged in sexual acts with an underage girl. Additional archived videos, now in circulation, similarly contain admissions and degrading commentary concerning minors.

“These actions, if substantiated, constitute offences under the

“Trafficking in Persons(Prohibition) Enforcement and Administration Act (TIPPEA) 2015, Cybercrime (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act, 2015

“You are hereby invited to appear in person for an interview as regards the alleged actions on Friday 30th May, 2025 by 9a.m at the NAPTIP Headquarters: 2028 Dalaba Crescent, Wuse Zone 5, Abuja, FCT.

“Kindly bring along any legal representation or documents you may consider relevant.

“Please be informed that your cooperation is critical to ensuring a fair and thorough inquiry into the matter. Failure to honour this invitation may result in further legal action.”

The celebrity has made a new video denying his earlier claim, attributing it to a marketing stunt.

In the first video that made people upset, Speed Darlington talked about what he said happened with a teenage girl ten years ago. Many people became angry and asked police to arrest him.

But on Wednesday, Speed Darlington posted another video on Instagram. In this new video, he said the story was not true. He said he made it up to help promote his new song.

He also said sorry to his fans and anyone who felt bad about the video.

“All my followers pissed off about the video I recorded in which I spoke about me sleeping with a 15-year-old, I am an artist. I need controversy to eat. If you are not trending, you are not getting booked. Simple! Nobody is booking something that is not trending,” he said.
