The Social Democratic Party(SDP) in Edo State has refused claims by the national leadership of the All Progressives Congress that the Nigeria was headed towards a one party state.

SDP Spokesman, Chris Ojeikere, rebutted the recent proposal by the National Chairman of the APC that the ruling party favoured a one Party State.
“For a Party that has no logical, Democratic or legitimate arguments to offer for occupying Nigeria’s State House, a Communist ideological bent would be quite a welcoming exit route,” Mr Ojeikere said.
“Only that this time, it is a dangerous flight of fancy that the APC is indulging.”
The SDP said the APC was hiding under “delusional fancy” which is like “eating your favourite meal in your night dream and enjoying it thoroughly, only for daybreak to punish you with the reality of your unreality and expose your romantic laziness as loaded with consequences for the indulgent.”
TMr Ojeikere noted that he was sure sure President Tinubu was not so confident about his romantic dream meal of a one Party State anymore.
He argued that this is so because on a daily basis the President was becoming aware of SDP’s grassroots acceptance and determination to play a highly necessary and genuine opposition role.
“To start with, the APC is not leading Nigerians anywhere at all, much less to a one Party State,” said Mr Ojeikere.
“A Party whose only preoccupation is to increase tariffs, taxes and bills, without providing any form of succour for its multi – dimensionally poor citizens, cannot have any followers to lead.
“No one is defecting to APC, because they want to follow APC to a one Party State. No! Some defectors have given us some reasons for their defection. One defecting Governor remarked that it is because they ‘CANNOT FIGHT Tinubu in 2027.’ We all know what the Governor is talking about! Put simply, he is crying out that the President is using State powers to force and coerce them to defect to the APC or face the music of EFCC, and or, the manipulation of APC – INEC!
“But the SDP has no reasons to hide in the shadows. It has no reasons to fear the EFCC! SDP has become the only hope of Democracy and the Voice of the Opposition in Nigeria today! Nigerians must not only join the SDP today. Nigerians must defend and protect the SDP, the chosen Party of the people!
“Anyone who thinks he can muzzle Nigerians into a one Party State is ignorant of Nigeria’s history of struggles and its unyielding insistence on positive diversities. Nigerians are not looking for a one Party State. Nigerians are looking for leadership, for security, food on our tables, fuel to run SME businesses etc.
“This not Rocket science. It is a simple learning what the SDP has practiced all these years: Social Democracy, Social Justice, Fairness and Equity. SDP has offered its platform for #Rendezvous Nigeria! And the grassroots can recognise that and are flocking into it.”
Mr Ojeikere further said that President Tinubu was only knocking together an “experimental contraption of transactional politics,” adding that the ramshackle shed of strange bedfellows would not endure.
“Soon enough, their APCian community of fierce and self – centered interests will burst through its seams and show the futility of President Tinubu’s wasted energy,” he said.
“The SDP has refused to join in the madness of defections that have become a problem, even before it reaches the point where it was supposed to be useful!
“How can decisions taken in fear, anxiety, desperation, sycophancy and incoherently, produce a coordinated result outcome?
“There will be outcome alright, but it will be chaos! This is why SDP is standing ‘far from the Maddening Crowd’ with quiet confidence as the Alternative!”
