Kidnappers have taken captive seven persons at Owo-Ipele axis, along Akure-Benin highway, in Ondo State, raising panic of a renewed wave of insecurity in the state.
Eyewitnesses report the gunmen intercepted an Akure-bound vehicle and abducting seven of its occupants.
Funmilayo Odunlami, spokesperson for the Ondo State Police Command confirmed the incident.
She said the victims were travelling from Akwa Ibom State to the South West before they were kidnapped by the bandits last Friday night.
She said, “The incident happened some minutes to 12am in the night. Seven travellers were involved, they were coming from Akwa Ibom State in a commercial bus.
“Our men are already making efforts to rescue the victims from the kidnappers and arrest the perpetrators.”
The kidnapping is coming barely a week after suspected herdsmen attacked a community at Ajegunle Powerline in Akure north local government area, killing five persons in the process.
However, it was gathered that the kidnappers have contacted the families of the victims demanding for ransom.
