Some youths in Ondo North Senatorial District have raised concerns over their inability to have free access to the senator representing the zone, Jide Ipinsagba.

Coming under the umbrella of Ondo North Youth Alliance, the youths also protested alleged extortion by aides as they made efforts to reach the senator.

The youths claimed constituents were paying N2,000 before they could get access to the senator.

“It is with utmost pain that we wish to inform the entire public that youths of the senatorial district pay a sum of N2,000 each to have access to the Senator at his residence in Manuex Palace Akure,” President of the group, Ojo Eniafe told journalists in Akure.

“For the avoidance of doubt, these actions have been reported multiple times to the senator without any noticeable change.

“The action is highly deplorable and regrettable. We want accessibility to our senator without having to pay.”

The group also wondered why the senator failed to weigh in on the crisis which rocked Owo, where cult clashes claimed lives and the peace of the city was breached.

“We are alarmed by the rising insecurity caused by cultists in Ondo North, particularly in Owo LGA,” Mr Eniafe said.

“The senator’s silence on this issue is deafening, and shows his lack of concern and care about the welfare and safety of his constituents.

“As youths, we are tired of living in fear and uncertainty. We demand that Senator Ipinsagba show a modicum of responsibility to the wishes and aspirations of our senatorial district by playing a pivotal role and collaboration with institutions to ensure his constituents are safe.”

But the senator has responded saying the attack on him was unjust.

Speaking on his behalf, Hakeem Ayodele, who leads another youth group,
Concerned Youth from Ondo North, says
The allegations against the senator were politically motivated.

Mr Ayodele said the senator who operates from his Abuja office and maintains a liaison office in Ondo North, has consistently demonstrated his commitment to the development of the senatorial district.

“His tenure is marked by notable achievements in agriculture, youth empowerment, healthcare, education, and infrastructure development,” he said.

“These include agricultural training programs, ICT initiatives for youths, road construction in Oka-Akoko, modern health facilities in Akunnu-Akoko, and scholarships for students.

“I urge Mr. Eniafe to issue a public apology for his remarks and desist from being used as a tool for political manipulation. Furthermore, I call on all youths in Ondo North to remain united and avoid being exploited by politicians seeking short-term gains at our expense.

“Let us focus on constructive dialogue and collaboration to ensure sustainable development in our district.”
