A resurgence of the cult war raging in the ancient town of Owo, in Ondo State has claimed the life one Isiaka Nasir, aged 40, a notorious cultist in the area.

The cult clash, which involved two rival groups, started about a week ago resulting in the death of four persons, police have said.

Despite a temporary cessation of hostilities, there are fears that the killing of Mr Nasir could snowball into another round of killings in Owo.

Eyewitnesses report that two masked men attacked Nasir in the town and killing him in the process.

The Ondo State Police Command confirmed the incident, noting that Mr Nasir had been on the wanted list of notorious cultists.

“The command can confirm the murder of one Nasir Isiaka aged 40 years, a notorious cultist who has been on the police wanted list,” Funmilayo Odunlami, the Police Public Relations Officer, said in a statement on Sunday.

“The police at A Div Owo today received a distress call that someone was shot at LA , Gbanasa area of Owo by two masked men, on getting to the scene, the police discovered that the deceased was a cultist who participated in the End SARS Protest, attacked Uso division and and stole an AK 47 and bullet proof belonging to the Police.

“He also participated in the killing of one Adedeji Rafiu aka PA.

“His remains has been deposited in the morgue by the police, effort is on to apprehend the men behind the mask.”

Ondo State has been a hot bed for violence in the last one week recorded several deaths from communal and cult clashes.

Two communal clashes at Iwaro Oka and Gbalegi village in Akure resulted in six deaths.

The number of deaths from the cult crisis has now reached five.
