The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has declared the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Senator Monday Okpebholo, winner of Saturday’s Edo State Governorship Election.

The Returning Officer, Prof. Faruk Adamu Kuta, officially announced Okpebholo winner of the election on Sunday after results were collated.

The APC candidate won in 11 LGAs to defeat the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Asue Ighodalo, who won in seven LGAs.

Mr Okpebholo scored 291,667 votes while his closest challenger, Ituah Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), scored 247,274 votes.

To emerge as the winner, a candidate must have the highest votes and at least 25 per cent of the votes in at least two-thirds (12) of the state’s 18 local government areas (LGAs).

Mr Okpebholo met this criteria, according to the results declared by INEC.
