Former Senator, Dino Melaye, has reacted to the current economic and security situation in the country, wondering why the former President, Olusegun Obasanjo is yet to write a letter to President Bola Tinubu on the state of the nation.

It will be recalled by Obasanjo was fond of writing letters to President Good Jonathan and Muhammadu Buhari on burning national issues.

In December 2013, Obasanjo wrote to President Goodluck Jonathan, accusing him of performing below par and taking decisions that could destroy the country.

In an 18-page letter dated December 2nd, 2013 and titled, “Before it is too late,” Obasanjo said, “Nigeria is bleeding and the hemorrhage must be stopped.”

Obasanjo said that Jonathan failed to deliver on his promises to the Nigerian people, to stem corruption, promote national unity and strengthen national security.

He added that President Jonathan had been pursuing selfish personal and political interests based on advice he received from “self-centred aides”, and earned him not to contest the 2015 presidential election.

Also in July 2019, Obasanjo wrote an open letter to President Muhammadu Buhari, saying, “Nigeria is on the precipice and dangerously reaching a tipping point where it may no longer be possible to hold danger at bay”.

Obasanjo, in the letter said, he intended to use the open letter to address weighty issues.

In the letter to Buhari, Obasanjo said, “I am constrained to write to you this open letter. I decided to make it an open letter because the issue is very weighty and must be greatly worrisome to all concerned Nigerians and that means all right-thinking Nigerians and those resident in Nigeria.”

The former President detailed the state of security in the country, describing it as a matter of life and death and that which was threatening the foundations of the country.

He had urged Buhari to take urgent steps at arresting the security situation in the country.

In all, Obasanjo wrote three open letters to Buhari during the latter’s eight years in office.

“Is Baba Obasanjo doing yoruba parapoism?” Melaye qurried, as he wrote in his X(former Twitter) page on Sunday.

“He is yet to write Tinubu a letter, and there are compelling reasons to write one now.

“Baba, write ooooo….we are waiting. Senator Dino Melaye.”
