Low level of industrialisation and a high rate of unemployment account for the prevalence of poverty in Ekiti State.

This is the submission of the governorship candidate of the Accord party, Chief Reuben Famuyibo, who is seeking to become governor of the state after the June 18 governorship election.

Famuyibo, a former member of the All Progressives Congress(APC), who defected to the Accord party after failing to get the ticket, is also a Social Democratic Party’s presidential aspirant in 1993.

He is also a legal practitioner, who had also attempted to become governor and slugging it out with Niyi Adebayo during the era of Alliance for Democracy(AD).

He said the lackadaisical attitude of successive governments in the state in the industrial had added to the negative economic growth and development across the 16 local government areas of the state..

Mr Famuyibo who spoke with newsmen in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital, explained that his blueprint had been conceptualised and designed to give power to the people and improve their livelihood.

” I have seen indeed that Ekiti is the poorest of all states in the country,” he said.

“We have unemployed graduates everywhere. Don’t blame them when they ask money from politicians, they don’t have what they are doing, many are Okada riders.

“How can you have a government that you can’t point to a single industry and all of them are acquiring properties across the country. In Ekiti state, cottage industries cannot cost more than 100,000 dollars .

“They are leaving us behind in abject poverty, no single development. Teachers are not being paid , graduates are lamenting, pensioners are in pain.”

He said his focus would be to industrialize the state and ensure jobs were available for the unemployed population if elected as governor.

He urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to be truly independent and eshew any form of bias and compromise, saying the mandates of Ekiti people must be protected.

The Accord candidate explained that only free, fair and credible poll from the electoral umpire would be acceptable to the people.
