A former Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party in Ekiti, Bisi Kolawole, has emerged as the candidate of the PDP for the 2022 Ekiti Governorship election.

His victory was announced on Wednesday after the primaries held in Ado Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital.

Mr Kolawole received the backing of former governor, Ayo Fayose, an endorsement that factionalized the party in the state ahead of the primaries.

He was declared by the Emmanuel Udom-led committee, after polling 671 votes to beat Mr Oni, his closest rival who polled 330 votes.

Mr Kolawole, a former commissioner for Environment, hails from Efon-Ekiti, in the Central senatorial district.

Mr Olusola scored 93 votes; Kayode Adaramodu,10 votes ; and Lateef Ajijola, 1 vote.

Ms Olujimi, despite her withdrawal, scored 2 votes ; Wale Aribisala, 56 votes ; and Deji Ogunsakin, 6 votes.
