Nigeria’s daily Covid-19 fatality was on the high side on Thursday with 11 persons losing their lives to the infection.

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control(NCDC) also recorded 566 new confirmed cases the same day.

Record of 11 deaths in one day surpasses previous records since the third wave of the pandemic.

The surge in the rate of infection is even as world leaders are deploying vaccines across Africa.

Meanwhile NCDC says it has tested over 2.5 million samples out of its estimated 200 million population.

As of Thursday, 176,577 cases have been confirmed, 165,323 cases have been discharged and 2, 178 deaths have been recorded in 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory

The 566 new cases are reported from 12 states-Lagos (283), Akwa Ibom (88), Oyo (62), Rivers (62), FCT (18), Ogun (17), Ekiti (12), Kwara (11), Plateau (6), Zamfara (3), Kaduna (2), and Katsina (2)

Nigeria’s highest daily infection of Covid-19 infection was recorded on Wednesday since the wake of the third wave, with a figure of 747.

This is also the highest daily infection figure in more than six months.

In Wednesday’s development, 13 states reported the infection and the FCT.

Lagos reported 488 cases; Akwa Ibom, 121; Oyo, 29; Rivers, 25; Ogun, 15; FCT 13; Kaduna 13; Kwara, 11; Ekiti,10; Osun, 10; Edo, 6; Abia, 3; Anambra, 2 and Plateau 1.
